Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has hit the Secret Santa jackpot, being the surprised recipient of a second gift.

The Prime Minister took part in the NZ Twitter Secret Santa along with thousands of other Kiwis.

On Tuesday, she posted a video on her Twitter account of her unwrapping a gift of a homemade Christmas decoration which she said would be the first on her bare Christmas tree.

And then on Wednesday a second gift arrived. In a video posted to her Facebook page Ardern described it as "a bit of a mix up".

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern took part in Twitter's NZ Secret Santa and was lucky to receive two gifts.

Ardern read aloud from the car, in which her Secret Santa said it was hard to know what to get the Prime Minister for Christmas.

The mystery sender sought the help of her mother, who was a school librarian, to challenge children of the school to come up with a little bit of Auckland for the PM's office.

"Their teacher chose the best one and I think Zara has done a wonderful job," the card said.

As she unwrapped her second gift Ardern said that as it was about Auckland, it wouldn't be a portrait of her: receiving those, she said, was "a bit surprising".

With a huge smile on her face the PM revealed a painting of the Sky Tower.

Enclosed with the picture was a note about the artist, Zara, who was revealed as a student from Panmure Bridge School in east Auckland.

The gift-giving concept attracted 3623 people nationwide with some breaking the $10 budget by a considerable margin: one lucky person received an iPad.
