England's Moeen Ali said he'd never been so angry as a cricketer.

England all-rounder Moeen Ali has claimed he was called 'Osama' by an Australian player during the 2015 Ashes.

Ali wrote in his autobiography, which is being serialised in a UK newspaper, that he had 'never been so angry on a cricket field'.

The incident happened in the first test in Cardiff in 2015, when Ali played a starring role with five wickets and a quick-fire knock of 77 in England's 169-run victory.

"An Australian player had turned to me on the field and said, 'Take that, Osama.' I have never been so angry on a cricket field," Ali wrote in The Times.

"I told a couple of the guys what the player had said to me and I think Trevor Bayliss must have raised it with Darren Lehmann, the Australians' coach.

"Lehmann asked the player, 'Did you call Moeen Osama?' He denied it, saying, 'No, I said, "Take that, you part-timer.'"

"Although I couldn't have mistaken 'part-timer' for 'Osama', obviously I had to take the player's word for it, though for the rest of the match I was angry."

Ali earlier wrote that Australia were "rude" and the only team he has disliked, yet said they have been "humbled" by sandpaper ball-tampering scandal.

"Everyone you speak to ... they are the only team I've played against my whole life that I've actually disliked," he said.

"Not because it's Australia and they are the old enemy but because of the way they carry on and [their] disrespect of people and players."
